It’s likely I’m being unfair because Buckaroo is where all the tropes COME from, but there you are. They are sincere in their enjoyment of the film, and that carries it a long way. It’s not a rubbish movie, and the actors are not bad. Ok, if there are any Buckaroo insiders there, I do want to know two things: when are we getting that sequel (I probably won’t watch it, so don’t make it just for me) and did we ever find out what that watermelon was doing there? Then finally there is that clever reference to War of the Worlds and a throwback to a world where you could get a social security number with no birth certificate or other firm identification. The rest, of course, is balderdash, poppycock and humbug. Language: English Words: 3,509 Chapters: 1/1. At the start the names of all those vascular landmarks SOUNDS authentic, if there is a medical student here could you verify if any of those names are real? Then, the description of a piece of rock being mostly empty space is actually quite true too, though I don’t know if the “one quadrillionth” figure is correct. The teamwork of Tony Stark and Buckaroo Banzai, as witnessed by Natasha Romanov. (He was born on May 29, 1970)Tony Starks Birthday Party Scene - Iron Man 2 (2010) Movie. Dark Horse Comics will publish the official sequel to The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension in August. Or right, depending on who you are of course. Contrast that with Tony Stark and I think you can see where the 2000s went wrong. The labs are in an ordinary building, the venting is held together by duct tape and it doesn’t look like Buckaroo himself lives very ostentatiously. What I was struck with too was that Buckaroo doesn’t seem to have much personal wealth, or, if he has, it’s not on display. Take that Tony Stark who, at his best, is some kind of mediocre DJ with a flying suit anyone can fly. Buckaroo, of course, is literally a Rockstar/Brain Surgeon/Rocket Scientist. What I was super entertained by too, was what I see as the source of the “Rockstar Scientist/Engineer” trope. Look, I tried reading “Gravity’s Rainbow” … many times. What? It’s a completely different thing? Oh, well. The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai 70 Metascore 1984 1 hr 43 mins Comedy, Action & Adventure, Science Fiction PG Watchlist A superhero-rock star-scientist must protect his new invention, which is. But at least I’ve watched the movie “V for Vendetta”. If I had been an educated man I guess I would have read Thomas Pynchyon’s “V” and realized that was the origin. I see it was there up to version 2.0 and then those killjoys at legal got rid of it. The biggest thing for me was that I finally got the Yoyodyne reference in those GPL licenses. On the whole Buckaroo was much more entertaining than I expected from the zany summary but it dragged on a bit. Or maybe every movie I’ve seen since this came out has been a cliche. Buckaroo starts out strong then kind of devolves into cliches. If I had known John Lithgow, Jeff Goldblum and Christopher Lloyd were in this movie I would have watched it 30 years earlier.
